Homemade Activities For Chicago Suburbs Kids

It shouldn’t cost a fortune to get your Chicago Suburbs kids fun, educational toys. Here at the Chicago Suburbs Children’s Health Blog we want to provide parents with some ideas to keep their young children’s minds healthy. This homemade activity for toddlers uses an egg carton and encourages development of fine motor skills.

You’ll need:
Empty egg carton
Plastic Easter eggs, in assorted colors
Card stock, or other heavy paper
Markers
Puff balls, in assorted colors

Many of these supplies are probably already in your Chicago area homes. For the rest, they can easily be found at any California, Illinois, or United States dollar store.

Chicago parents can take the card stock, cut it into cards, and draw an egg shape on each card. Then color each egg in a different color-combination. Have your kids draw a card, and when they see they color combination, they’ll take the plastic eggs from the carton and assemble the same combination from the eggs.

Your Chicago Suburbs children will have fun while keeping their minds active and healthy as they practice learning their colors and copying color patterns.

Another great activity for Chicago kids is to have them put colored puff balls inside the same color of egg. For safety, make sure the puff balls aren’t a choking hazard.

Welcome to my Chicago Suburbs entrepreneur blog. Today’s article is a bit philosophical. I want to talk about time. I would argue that time is more precious than almost anything else in life.

Now that I have channels of residual income, the checks can come even if I take a three-week vacation with my family.

Sure, the money is great, but guess what I value more than the financial security? More Free Time. That’s right.

Is Juicing Better For Chicago Kids?

Chicago health trends come and go and I have recently noticed that the practice of juicing fruits and vegetables has made its way back into the IL children’s nutrition spotlight.

In my experience, I have found that the only Chicago parents who have been successful at making their own super-healthy juices over the long term are Chicago vegetarians who dedicate a lot of daily time to preparing their food.

Most Chicago people who buy an expensive juicer use it for a few weeks before it is relegated to the back shelf of the pantry. Though juicing provides a way to improve your children’s nutrition, it can be time-consuming and expensive. After buying fresh fruits and vegetables, it can cost several dollars to make one glass. Of course, if you have ever tasted fruit and vegetable juices made fresh, you know how delicious they are. For many Chicago parents, this is worth every minute and every dollar spent.

Does juicing provide more nutrition than eating whole fruits and vegetables?

I haven’t come across any convincing evidence of this but I do see the value for Chicago parents whose kids enjoy drinking juice more than eating whole fruits and vegetable. Mixing vegetables with sweet fruits in a juice can disguise their taste and make them more palatable than the same vegetables raw or cooked.

Chicago parents who would like to start juicing should keep in mind the fact that juicing usually removes all the fiber from the fruits and veggies used. A glass of fresh juice also contains a lot of calories!

Smart residents prepare for emergencies, and parents of young children in the Chicago area should be aware of the special nature of preparing their families for emergencies.

Since the health and safety of all family members is important, everyone’s needs should be taken into account when preparing emergency provisions.

A 72-hour emergency kit should be easy to grab and contain essentials like water, food, first aid kit, flashlight, prescription medications, etc. Chicago Suburbs families should consider what each child eats. Formula and bottles should be included if you have infants, and soft baby food (and a spoon!) for toddlers. Don’t forget diapers and baby wipes: you can find convenient travel sizes of these at United States, Illinois, and California area drugstores.

Since healthy kids grow and change so quickly, Chicago Suburbs families should update these emergency kits at least twice a year. A good reminder is daylight savings time. When Chicago families change their clocks, they should change the food and supplies in their kits.

Chicago Suburbs Teens At Risk For Eating Disorders

Hello! Welcome to the Chicago Suburbs children’s health blog. I am Healthy Chocolate Specialist Richard McLain. At this site, I publish information on nutrition and health issues that affect Chicago Suburbs children and families. My goal is to improve the state of children’s health in the Chicago area.

Despite decades of increased awareness in Chicago about the dangers of a distorted body image and extreme dieting, eating disorders are still a serious problem.

A recent American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) study revealed disturbing facts about eating disorders among children.¹ According to the report, 0.5 percent of teenage girls in the country are estimated to have anorexia. The bulimia rate among adolescent girls is estimated at more than double that at 1 to 2 percent. Though anorexia and bulimia are usually thought of as a problem for adolescents, Chicago Suburbs parents should be aware that even young Chicago children are at risk, as well as males, though the rates are lower.

IL pediatricians can help Chicago Suburbs parents with children affected by an eating disorder. The AAP recommends a combination approach for the treatment of eating disorders in children. Treatment plans usually include nutritional guidance and psychiatric counseling along with the appropriate medical care.

Turn Your Car Into A Mobile Chicago Suburbs Office

If you are a busy Chicago home based business owner, you may have noticed that your work-at-home job has turned into a work-in-car job. I have been operating a direct marketing business out of my Chicago Suburbs home since February 2009, but I spend a considerable amount of time on the road in the 60089 zip code area.

One day, I realized that the back seat was covered with Xe Energy Drink samples, the floor was covered with X Power Squares brochures, and the dash was covered with sticky notes.

I have a beautiful office in my Chicago Suburbs home: it is organized, comfortable and well-supplied. Why couldn’t I create a mobile version of my home office in my car?

I got to work. I headed out to my closest Chicago Suburbs office supply store. I purchased a hanging file folder for paperwork and sturdy plastic boxes to organize samples in my trunk. (One of my Xe Energy Drink team members uses heavy cardboard banker’s boxes to hold samples. She thinks they are easier to label.)

Next I had to tackle the little stuff: paper clips, sticky notes, and pens. I found that cup holders can be great organizers.

Exotic Pet Dangers In California

Does your child have an unusual pet? Many California parents have bypassed cats and dogs for pets that don’t leave hair, urine, or vomit on the carpet. Ease of care, however, is not always a wise trade-off. California parents should be aware of the multiple health and safety risks associated with reptiles, rodents, ferrets, primates, and even fish.

The following list of pets and the possible dangers reads like a script for a horror movie:

Fish: infections that can cause lung disease, skin infections, and leprosy
Hamsters: a virus that causes irreversible nerve damage
Hedgehogs: salmonella, yersinia pseudotuberculosis, rabies, and fungal infections
Iguanas, lizards, snakes: salmonella (the animals themselves can tolerate levels of salmonella far greater than humans)
Monkeys and other primates: herpes B (can cause meningitis in humans), tuberculosis, serious injury
Ferrets: these fierce critters with razor-sharp teeth have maimed many children
Prairie dogs: tuleremia (often fatal infection)
African Gambian rats: monkeypox (smallpox-related disease)
